Comparing the Dyson TP01 vs TP02 in Detail

The TP01 and TP02 are both great but they have a stark difference, although it is not noticeable at first glance since they look identical. Dyson made all the upgrades for the TP02 internally.

The first thing that catches your eyes when you see a Dyson fan is that it does not have blades. Dyson prides itself for the invention of the Air Multiplier technology which powers their fans. The patented technology from Dyson makes it possible for their fans to not have exposed blades.

The TP01 and TP02 are both powered by Air Multiplier technology which makes them look sleek and very modern-looking compared to other traditional fans you see in the market. They are also both safe and easy to clean because there are no visible spinning blades and no grills blocking the amp. You can just use a cloth to wipe the dust.

Since the TP Series is designed for large spaces, you will notice that the TP01 and the TP02 are tall, standing at 40 inches respectively and weighing 8.4 lbs each. These two machines are also certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America because they are fixed with 360 Glass HEPA filters with Activated Carbon.

The TP01 and TP02 are capable of filtering 99.97% of microscopic airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns such as ultra-fine dust, allergens, pollens,  and other air pollutants in your home. The Activated Carbon captures bad odors, gases, toxins, smoke, and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compound).

When it comes to their accessory, unlike other latest Dyson air purifiers, the TP01 and TP02 only comes with a remote in their boxes. You won’t be getting any extra filters in the box when you purchase one.

Since TP02 was the more advanced version of the TP01, Dyson made some internal adjustments to it.

The TP02 has an oscillation degree of 180 which is a jump from its predecessor’s 70 degrees. It also supports WiFi which might come handy for some people who have a smart home, although the TP02 works very well on non-smart home owners too as long as you have WiFi. The WiFi connectivity makes it possible for you to connect the  TP02 to the Dyson Link App which you can easily download on your mobile phones. The Dyson Link App is more than just an app, it turns your mobile phone into a remote control so you can adjust the temperature or change the modes of the device even without reaching for the remote control.  In addition to the app, TP02 can also recognize voice commands through Amazon Alexa.

The TP02 also comes in with modes unlike the TP01 where you have to input the settings manually. The TP02 has Auto mode which lets the device automatically check the quality of air for you, it also adjusts the airflow, and turns the device on or off. Meanwhile, the Night mode of the TP02 dims the display and sets the device to its most quiet settings.

Due to the upgrades made by Dyson to the TP02, it is expected that its price is slightly higher than the TP01. Although the TP01 is more affordable than the TP02, it is still a good air purifier.

Conclusion

The TP01 and TP02 are air purifiers that can also serve as a fan on hot days plus they both look great with their bladeless and slender tower. These machines are good because they have 360 Glass HEPA filters with Active Carbon which is ideal for people with asthma and allergies, light smokers, and pet owners. They are also great when you have kids around since they do not have exposed fast-spinning blades.

If you are planning to get any of these two Dyson air purifier fans, here are the things that you should consider:

  1. The first thing that you should consider when buying any of these two Dyson air purifiers, is your budget. The TP01 and TP02 are high-quality machines and they do not come cheap. They are expensive and for their features so if you want to save a few bucks, pick the TP01 because it is cheaper.
  2. The filters of both the TP01 and TP02 have to be replaced every year and it costs extra money since you have to buy the replacement filter cartridges separately.
  3. If you want a device that can be connected to WiFi choose the TP02 since it supports WiFi and can be connected to the Dyson Link App.
  4. If you want the voice control feature, pick the TP02 because you can control the device using Amazon Alexa with simple spoken instructions.
  5. The TP02 has an Auto mode which lets the device automatically monitor the air quality, adjust the airflow, and turn it on and off. It also came with a Night mode which dims the display and sets the device to its quiet setting. If these functions are important for you, TP02 is the best option for you.

Verdict

The TP01 and TP02 are okay for me. They are high-quality machines with dual functionality, however, they are a bit expensive for my liking. You can get a good air purifier that is as powerful as them without emptying your pockets. I would suggest that you check out other brands if you want to save money.

If you are trying to pick between these two Dysons, pick the TP02 because if you are paying for an expensive air purifier fan, why not choose the one with more features?

Although the Dyson TP01 is okay, it is lacking a lot of features. It doesn’t even have any mode options. You have to manually adjust the settings to your liking, unlike the TP02, which comes with Auto Mode and Night Mode.

Plus the Dyson TP02 is also WiFi-enabled so you have a lot of options on how to control the unit – through the remote control included in the package, through the Dyson Link App, and through Amazon Alexa.
